Meet The Founder

Priscilla Coffie-Owusu, CEO/FOUNDER

Sweet Serenitea was founded in 2020 by Priscilla Coffie-Owusu,  a German-Born Ghanaian who moved to the US at the age of 10. While being in the US, the one thing she always missed from her home in Germany, was the abundant availability of various fruity-tea brands which she loved so deeply. Priscilla remembers constantly asking her family to bring her teas every-time they returned or came from Germany, and also going out of her way to purchase in bulk so she can refill her supply.
She enjoyed sharing the teas with her coworkers and friends, who also became very fond of the flavors. It was then where she got the idea to make her own space in the tea business, teaming up with an international german tea leaf supplier.
Tea time has always been something she looked forward to at the beginning and the end of her day. Her parents continued the traditional eating schedule of a German household, where breakfast and dinner were the lightest meals of the day. Breakfast almost always consisted of bread (brot), cheese (Käse), Butter and Salami. Sometimes Nutella if Priscilla wanted something sweet. This was all topped off with something hot...her favorite fruity tea. Dinner, similar to breakfast, was also very light. There were many days where dinner did not have an actual meal, and just consisted of her favorite tea right before bedtime. Having something hot in her stomach was a sacred rule in household.
Aside from the traditions in her upbringing that brought Priscilla close to tea, there was also something she grew to love about that sacred time. It was a time for her to completely unplug and just focus on existing. As a Healthcare Operations Manager, she's learned that there is no such thing as stress free day. Between operating her site, to putting out daily fires and being available 7 days a week for unforeseen emergencies, she learned to function in complete chaos. However, she has made it a point to carve out her tea time and not focus on anything but that in the morning when she gets to work, and at nighttime right before bed. It is the 15 minutes of peacefulness that allowed her to find her serenity, and it's this serenity that she hopes to bring to her consumers. 15 minutes where you just sip, sit and unwind and enjoy the various flavors of Sweet Serenitea.

Meet the Team

Deanna Hendricks, CREATIVE SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Deanna Hendricks joined the Sweet Serenitea team in early 2021 as a Creative Support Specialist, where she's had a lot of influence developing the brand identity and marketing strategies. At a young age, Deanna was introduced to the magic of travel thanks to her mother’s belief that life’s greatest lessons are learned through experiences not necessarily in a classroom, a book or material objects. The exposure to different cultures and lands inspired her interest and love of adventure and people. Currently, she works full-time as a social worker, assisting families and individuals experiencing economic stress due to COVID-19.

In her free time, she enjoys cooking, gardening and facilitating a book club she started during the pandemic. She is the volunteer Social Media and Communications Chair of a local civic league near her residence and volunteers frequently when in Vieques, PR with animal rescue and housing organizations. When given the opportunity to work with Sweet Serenitea, Deanna quickly claimed her spot on the team as she believes in the company’s mission and what it aspires to bring to the tea community. Deanna currently resides in New Jersey and is a full-time dog parent to Queen Mayi, her miniature pinscher.
